Communicating with your hairdresser
How you relate with your stylist is very important for both you and the stylist. Remember, you both want a long term, satisfying relationship. If you stay with the stylist for a while you will become friends and will share a lot of intimate conversations. Be honest with them, when something is not working with your hairstyle or color discuss it with your stylist.
Speak in a supportive way as you don't want to put them in a defensive position. Don't forget that they are trying to make you look great, so you have to work together on any problems. Most hairstylists are sensitive people and your satisfaction affects their self-esteem. In general, it's better to offer supportive criticism by stating what changes you would like to make instead of making them wrong. Support and honesty are the key words in these situations.
When you want a change in style let them know that you're thinking about doing something new and ask for advice and suggestions. Look at photos for some direction. Photos are for ideas only. Don't have the expectation that you will be able to do your hair exactly the way you see in a photo. But a picture may help you communicate your ideas.
Treat your stylist with respect and have a soft approach with your hairdresser. It's better to stay with a stylist that you have a good relationship with and work through any problems if possible. Your hairdresser will respect you for giving them feedback and staying loyal instead of leaving and trying someone new. You will get very far with this attitude. Treat your hairstylist just the way you would want people to treat you.
Lastly, please call the salon at least 24 hours prior to your appointment if you need to cancel or reschedule. Your hairdresser has reserved this time for you and would appreciate your consideration by calling in advance to cancel. This gives them a chance to fill your slot with another client. Do the right thing, it only takes a second.
